New Respect

As of yesterday, I have a new respect for all you non-representational artists out there. It's a lot harder than it looks to design and create a truly interesting, engaging painting out of pure imagination. I learned this by trying to do it myself. On a very large canvas. I'm now heading to the art supply store (in a snow storm, no less!) to buy a very large jar of gesso and a few more tubes of paint. My next attempt will be much simpler.

  1. I agree! I've tried a few times with poor success. Lets keep trying, I think it could be a lot of fun.

  2. Hi Jennifer. I agree. I notice it when people who view this kind of art usually make a comment of how they could do that with a blindfold..or a dog's tail wagging. I feel the desire to slip to the other side one of these days...after lots of planning and sketching, I know! Can't wait to see yours!

  3. Jennifer, there is so much good creative stuff to enrich our lives--realistic or abstract--it's all nourishing. I am once again transitioning to abstraction and (once again) feeling like the oddball and outcast. People love the comfort of images they can identify and relate to (so do I) but my new work exists on a different plane of perception. Go for that big canvas!
